Putting This Blog out of its Misery

Okay this is the last entry for the MMR. Lets face it this blog sucks. I've got no direction, its not like I have any regular commentary from readers, I've stopped tracking web traffic but I can't imagine its off the charts.

I checked my Technorati rating, I'm ranked 1,219,524.... I'm over a million blogs away from number one... OUCH! There are blogs that haven't been updated in half a year with more heat then this one. This blog is the equivalent of a fresh crap sandwich, sure its fresh but who cares, I'm not eating it anyway. Nobody is touching this blog, let along reading it. So I'm killing it.

I'll return to the blogsphere with something else more refined and focused in the near future. In the meantime read the Checksum Crusader and/or The Deuce of Davenport. Both are vastly different but excellent blogs to read.

Gonna bag us a Sasquatch

I found this on CNN today, looks like researchers are going to focus a new Bigfoot hunt on Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It'd been awhile since I'd seen any Bigfoot news, wouldn't it be wild if they got clear video of a Bigfoot. As much as I love these articles I don't believe Sasquatch exists, BUT what a mind blow it would be if these jokers came up with video of one of these things or better yet video and a body dead or alive.

The Woolly Mammoth can now be cloned but should we?

An interesting article from National Geographic that I found via Digg. Personally I think bringing back the Woolly Mammoth would be pretty cool. However resurrecting Neandertals is a different story, odds are this was a sentient species and bringing them back could bring up a good list of rights issues that we'd be best to avoid.

Indiana Jones back again

Here he is, Indiana Jones on the set of the fourth movie. This is the first new photo of Harrison Ford in his Indy gear. Even though some of my other favorite characters aren't returning in this latest chapter in the Indy series, I'm still pretty damn excited.

Biggest Dollar Comic Bin EVER

Something any comic book reader loves is a dollar box or bin, where any book in the box is just a dollar to purchase. When I was a kid these used to be the quarter bin, but inflation touches everything. Today I went to C-Mart in Landover, MD and spent a solid hour or so perusing the largest comic book dollar box ever. Actually this was 6 solid rows of long boxes full of comics from the 60's on to the early 2000's. There was a great selection of titles both from major publishers and independent companies. A great way to fill in some holes or to check out some series that you'd heard about OR a great way to get some comics cheap to introduce younger readers to medium.

It went about 50/50 on the amount of books that were bagged & boarded and those that were unprotected. The quality ranged from near mint to very good, with the protected books obviously being in better condition. From Casper to Elementals to Transformers to Superman to Femforce there was a little something for almost every reading taste. For me it was a fun way to spend a late Saturday morning. I picked up some issues of the Secret Wars limited series that I was missing, some of the mid 80's John Byrne Fantastic Four and Alpha Flight, and a few other things. Good Stuff!

Important News?

Paris Hilton was called to court and returned to jail today, 24 hour, round the clock coverage of her movements throughout the day on all the major "news" networks!

Oh and by the way, Gen. Peter Pace is stepping down from his position as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, The first space shuttle launch of the year went off successfully, and during the G8 conference participants are being criticized for not living up to the pledges made to fight diseases in Africa.

Paris psychological state is shaky she's being watched closely to make sure she doesn't hurt herself while imprisoned. Stay Tuned to all "news" networks for updates.

Comic Book Summer Event Overload

Hollywood drops huge blockbuster films on the viewing public for summer consumption, its an annual tradition that we all gobble up. Whether you are into Zombies, Pirates, Superheroes, Ogres, or another damn Penguin movie... there is something in the theatres for everyone. The two major comic book publishers DC Comics & Marvel are getting into the habit of producing big, "history-making" summer mini-series that are marketed heavily and seem to impact all the major characters and titles of their respective houses.

Marvel will have multiple events occurring. The one receiving the most advertising hype would have to be World War Hulk, which I'm looking forward to on some level since I'm a die-hard Hulk fan. Seeing the Hulk get his revenge on all the folks responsible for launching his gamma irradiated butt into space should make for some cool stories. Marvel is going to handle World War Hulk the same way it handled the Civil War event last year. There will be the World War Hulk mini series book, that will coincide with a Frontline series that views the event from the point of view of two reporters following the story. There will also be World War Hulk mini series attached to other Hero groups like the X-Men. I'm also sure that every comic in the Marvel Super Hero universe proper will have some World War Hulk action. I can only pray that Marvel better with keeping on track with their scheduling and meet their deadlines so that this event doesn't stretch across an entire year like Civil War did.

The event series from Marvel that I'm more excited about is Conquest, which will be another superhero space opera continuing where Annihilation left off. I LOVED Annihilation, I came on board late, buying the the series all together over the Christmas break last year. I ate it up with a spoon. It was so much more satisfying then Civil War, and really developed characters that I've always enjoyed. Conquest looks to be delivering the same. Images I've seen include the Starlord really making a return... and the return of Rocket Raccoon YEAH BABY. Marvel has such a rich collection of cosmic and space characters, its great to see them getting such quality attention again. Also the new Nova series is on my must read list, so far that has been a great read. I'll write up a list of some of my other must read suggestions in a couple days.

I'm heading to San Diego to attend the big International Comic Con with my man Fred, having these series events always adds some extra electricity to the comic publisher panels and makes for some interesting occurrences. Civil War ended with a Spider-Man with a public identity, a dead Captain America, and government control over all super powered citizens of the USA. I'm not a fan of any of these changes, so I'm hoping to get some satisfaction in the form of one of my favorite Marvel characters kicking people around and possibly bring back the old status quo in the Marvel Universe.
